Oscar Pistorius is currently serving time for being convicted of culpable homicide so it's understandable if his holidays are a little bleak.

On Christmas day, it was reported by South African news organization Eyewitness News that Pistorius would not be having a jolly Christmas like he was once used to.

Pistorius is serving a five-year sentence for fatally shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a bathroom door last Valentine's Day.

The Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Logan Maistry said in a statement that prisoners can expect some treats such as visitation and meat, but the prisoner privileges are determined based on their classifications in the system.

"The mandate of the department is to insure safe and secure incarceration therefore on days like Christmas in a correctional centre it is like any other normal day," Maistry said.

Another South African publication, Times LIVE, revealed Zebilon Monama, the area commissioner at the Kgosi Mampuru II jail in Pretoria where Pistorius is serving time, said, "Prisoners are not being pampered."

It was also revealed by Maistry that prisoners are allowed to decorate their cells. Decorations "must not in any way compromise the security of the centre," he shared.

Pistorius is classified as a group B prisoner, which his sister Aimee revealed last month on Twitter.

Times LIVE reported that his classification grants him 36 annual visits of 45 minutes each at a maximum of four visits in a month.
