Denis O'Hare has settled the dispute about how many episodes this season of FX's American Horror Story will be.

When the news came out that episode 12 of American Horror Story: Hotel, titled "Be Our Guest," would also serve as the season finale, many fans were confused. The past three seasons have all been 13 episodes long, with only the first season airing a 12-episode season.

Well it's no mistake. O'Hare, who plays Liz Taylor in Hotel, tweeted to a fan and essentially confirmed that the season will have only 12 episodes:

It is currently unknown why the series is only doing 12 episodes this year, though it's possible the final episode will be extra long, as was the case with the season 1 finale.

Could the falling ratings be to blame? Probably not, considering cable operates on a different level from broadcast television in that you'll rarely see a cable series get a shortened order due to the success or failure of its ratings halfway through a season. Perhaps Hotel had always been planned as a 12-episode season.

Regardless, the series has done somewhat well among big awards organizations lately. Lady Gaga and the series were nominated at the Golden Globes, while Kathy Bates, Wes Bentley and Sarah Paulson were all nominated at the Critics' Choice Awards. It remains to be seen if anyone will pick up hardware for their efforts this season.

American Horror Story: Hotel airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
