Hiroshima: The World Remembers U.S. Atom Bomb Attack 70 Years Later, Anniversary Renews Calls For No Nuclear Weapons [PHOTO]
The world is remembering a horrific day in Japanese and American histories with the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
August 6 marks the 70th year since the day the United States dropped a bomb on the Japanese city, killing 140,000 civilians in the process and bringing the official end of World War II. On this day, the once again thriving city becomes one full of mourning as those still there remember the extreme dangers that the weapon-nicknamed Little Boy-once wrought.
Now, as the world all remembers that day, some have since expressed regret over the actions of the U.S., and are simply remembering the horrific event:
My mom modified the Japanese words for atomic bomb: "genshi bakudan," to "genki -baka-dan:" to mean stupid power. #Hiroshima

I really never grasped what #Hiroshima was til a couple weeks ago. The world stopped that day as the U.S. did the #1 worst attack ever. — Sokreaytes (@KREAYSHAWN) August 6, 2015
Peace to those who have suffered then and generations after #Hiroshima as an American I feel such guilt for that. It was disgusting.

70 years ago today - #Hiroshima -- just think about being Pres Truman and making that decision — Greta Van Susteren (@greta) August 6, 2015

Others have called the event an act of terrorism and condemned the U.S. for committing it back then, and speaking out against such acts now:
70 years ago the US dropped a nuclear bomb on a civilian city, killing 70,000, in order to achieve its political aims. #Hiroshima #terrorism — Saladin Ahmed (@saladinahmed) August 6, 2015
That US officials speak of massacre of thousands of ppl & justify #Hiroshima bombing as act of prudence; this is the soul of Arrogance.11/89

It is a myth that #Hiroshima was bombed to save American lives It was bombed to show USSR that US had nukes pic.twitter.com/Zo5IDECS4X — Ian56 (@Ian56789) August 6, 2015
However, some have used the day to remember something more important-and call for complete destruction of nuclear weapons entirely, so as to prevent a similar tragedy from ever happening again:
70 years ago the bomb hit #Hiroshima. 15.000 nuclear weapons exist today. There should be 0. pic.twitter.com/Pa1ZFw1doU
