National S'mores Day 2015: Celebrate Gooey Campfire Treats With These New Twists On The Old Classic [PHOTO]
No simple snack can seem quite as much like a summertime staple like the S'more, and there's no better day to celebrate the gooey and delicious treat like on National S'Mores Day!
The August 10 celebration of the classic summer campfire snack, which is rumored to have gotten its start with the Girl Scouts back in the 1920s, is also a perfect day to kick back and enjoy one...or two...for five... for yourself. But, as amazing as the classic recipe is, there are some definite ways to still enjoy it with a seriously delicious new twist.
Here are some of our favorite recipes for different (but still sinfully delicious) ways to enjoy your S'mores:
S'mores Mocha (Available at Hash House A Go Go):
If in addition to your s'mores you've got a caffeine addiction you just can't quit, this recipe is the perfect solution. Featuring a classic mocha drink with toasted marshmallows and graham crackers and topped with chocolate sauce and a dusting of cocoa powder, it's the ultimate in decadent coffee drinks.
S'mores Dumpling
Want to find a way to have dessert for dinner? Try this recipe for S'mores dumplings, which pretty much wraps all of your s'more ingredients up into a wonton wrapper, which can quite possibly qualify it as a dinner menu option.
S'moreo
Um, what could be wrong with switching out the graham crackers from the traditional recipe in favor of an Oreo cookie? Probably nothing. Even less wrong? This version that also adds peanut butter.
S'mores Ice Cream Sandwich
Betty Crocker has the right idea with this recipe, which pairs the traditional campfire snack with what is likely the official dessert of summer-ice cream.
Thin Mint S'more
Hey, if it weren't for the Girl Scouts, we may not even have S'mores today! Why not honor them with this S'more take with their most popular cookie recipe?
