NCIS went out with a bang, literally, during its 12th season finale and it will return with one too.

'NCIS' Season 13 Premiere Episode Officially Titled 'Stop the Bleeding'

The upcoming season is really going to test the characters and the actors portraying them.

On Thursday TVLine dished what some of the cast of the hit CBS series had to say in regard to Gibbs (Mark Harmon) suffering from two shots, which makes his life hang in the balance, but of course he'll be back. It's Gibbs, he always comes back, but the key factor here is he will be a changed man due to this entire ordeal.

How Long Will Gibbs Be 'In A Difficult Place' During 'NCIS' Next Season?

Michael Weatherly, who plays Tony DiNozzo, revealed that the major storyline this season would be "how he comes back, how that impacts the team, and what the ramifications are."

Director Vance, portrayed by Rocky Carroll, shared a similar statement, explaining, "It's funny, because people say, 'If Gibbs goes, so goes the show. So he's got to survive.' To which I say, 'Yeah, but will he be the same?'"

It isn't clear what exactly will happen to Gibbs post-surgery since Jon Cryer's character Dr. Taft will obviously save him, but there will be a struggle and shift with all the characters. The Calling's terrorist plans have impacted all of them and Gibbs getting shot was by far a major turning point.

"It's going to be interesting to see what the hell happens with Gibbs this year, because that's the type of thing that can change someone pretty significantly," Brian Dietzen, who portrays Jimmy Palmer on the series, said, adding, "Getting shot by a child is pretty nasty, and pretty momentous. But this season our writers have pulled together one of their most cohesive plans in a long time."

Weatherly added that what is planned will lead to "a fundamental shift in the show."

Color us intrigued!

NCIS returns to CBS on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.
