The Vampire Diaries new season will introduce many new characters especially those of Lily's (Annie Wersching) heretic family.

Why Does Arielle Kebbel Rank Her 'Vampire Diaries' Character As A Career Highlight?

The show's creator Julie Plec has revealed that without Elena (Nina Dobrev) the storylines will shift to being more family-focused.

With that in mind it will slightly resemble the family dynamics seen on The Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals and how the Original family interacted even on TVD prior to the spin-off happening.

Whose Romantic Relationship Will Come 'In Stages' On New Episodes Of 'The Vampire Diaries'?

Plec told The Hollywood Reporter recently that Lily's heretics will view Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley), her actual children from birth, as "the stepsiblings they don't want to know."

"They fight like cats and dogs," Plec said of the heretics.

"They fight for each other and against each other all the time. It's fun to watch them do their thing. They have no regard for the rest of the people in the community, and they have no regard for Stefan and Damon," Plec further dished on Lily's non-blood related family that is so closely bonded.

Plec went on to describe the heretics as "droll and mean and in-fighty and [argumentative] and funny and snotty and sparkly in all those ways we love characters on Vampire Diaries."

It sounds like they will bring a lot of excitement to Mystic Falls this season!

The series returns to The CW in the fall for season 7 on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. ET.
