Virginia On-Air Shooting: Journalists & Others Pay Tribute To Allison Parker & Adam Ward On Social Media After Shocking Deaths On Live TV [PHOTO]
Just 24 hours after they were gunned down during a live television broadcast, journalists and others are taking to social media in droves to honor and remember WDBJ reporter Allison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward, after they were murdered by a former co-worker, Vester Flanagan.
Everything We Know About Allison Parker & Adam Ward's Murders
Flanagan, who went by the professional name of Bryce Williams attacked his former co-workers during a feature story assignment in Virginia yesterday morning, firing shots at them and interview subject Vicki Gardner on live television. Garner survived the shooting, but Parker and Ward were both killed. Flanagan later went on to kill himself.
Now, the journalism community and several others have taken to social media to share upset over the horrific deaths, which were briefly given new life on Twitter and Facebook yesterday after Flanagan posted his own videos of the attack.
Many have expressed their condolences for Parker and Ward's family and friends, which included Parker's boyfriend, WDBJ evening anchor Chris Hurst, and Ward's fiance, a morning show producer who was celebrating her final day at the station and wound up watching her fiance die on live television:
Our thoughts and prayers are with Todd Schurz and Marci Burdick and their Schurz Communications family. https://t.co/tDzfdCcNEj

I have no idea how @chrishurstwdbj, the boyfriend of Allison Parker, was able to do these TV interviews in the aftermath of her death. — rolandsmartin (@rolandsmartin) August 27, 2015
To be an anchor at WDBJ, to see your girlfriend murdered live on TV, is unbelievable. Incredible strength by @chrishurstwdbj.

Some have expressed outrage over some who have put forth claims that the shooting was faked and that the situation wasn't as serious as it seemed:
The fact that 24hrs later theres already people saying the WDBJ shooting in Virginia is "fake" or a "conspiracy" is outright disgusting. — Jøhnny Ź (@imtherealjz) August 27, 2015
Peoples ignorance sometimes is really fucking painful to witness.
— Jøhnny Ź (@imtherealjz) August 27, 2015
Honestly I hope you fry in Hell if you truly believe the Virginia news shooting was fake. Fucking idiots. — Jøhnny Ź (@imtherealjz) August 27, 2015
People just don't want to accept the reality of a situation, so they look for every crazy excuse in the book to attempt to rationalize.
— Jøhnny Ź (@imtherealjz) August 27, 2015
It literally makes me so sick to read that people think the Virginia shooting yesterday was fake. How dare you say that those people — Krista (@kristamichellew) August 27, 2015
Offered up their lives to help "promote gun control." How dare you think that they were all acting. I am absolutely disgusted that people
— Krista (@kristamichellew) August 27, 2015
Seriously think that it was a hoax. I feel terrible for those families that are suffering and the woman who survived. I hate ppl for this. — Krista (@kristamichellew) August 27, 2015
However the more common thread on social media has been solidarity amongst the journalism community, as many mourned the loss of two of their fellow reporters, and stood firm that they were proud to be doing the jobs they did-and wouldn't let a situation like this one scare them away from it.
