Connie Britton recently opened up about adopting her first child.

The single 45-year-old star of the hit ABC series "Nashville" talked on Monday to the hosts of "The View" about her life.

One of the biggest decisions she made was to adopt a child as a single woman, but she said that didn't hinder her choices.

"I lost both of my parents within three years of each other and I kind of thought, 'What am I waiting for?'" Britton said, as reported by People Magazine. "The man will come and if I want to have my own kids I can do that, but I [knew] this was something I [wanted] to do."

It wasn't long before the recent Golden Globe nominee found the right place to adopt.

"I was going to do a documentary about Ethiopian orphans and spent a lot of time in orphanages there."

But this wasn't a spur of the moment decision for the actress. Britton had apparently thought about the prospect of adopting an orphan from Africa for a while. She added, "It was something I knew I always wanted to do - adopt from there."

Britton adopted baby boy Yoby in 2011 in an event that she said was a "wonderful and life-changing experience."

The actress also spends much of her time singing with her young son which helped her make the decision to join the cast of the country music related drama.

"When this came up, I thought to myself, 'You know, I sound pretty good singing with Yoby. I'm sure I can pull it off.' Not smart!" she said about agreeing to lend her voice to her "Nashville" character.

Britton has come a long way from her role on the 1990's sitcom "Spin City." The actress was nominated for two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress on "Friday Night Lights" and an Emmy nod for her part in season one of the FX horror-drama "American Horror Story."
