Emma (Jennifer Morrison) will do something bad in the new season of ABC's Once Upon a Time to her own loved ones.

Will Regina Become An Even More 'Heroic Character' On 'Once Upon a Time' In Season 5?

With Emma being swallowed up by darkness in the season 4 finale, she is now on her way to becoming the new Dark One. And she may be even more dangerous than the previous Dark One, Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle).

Once Upon a Time showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz spoke with TVLine about Emma's new arc.

How Will Emma's Personality Be 'Twisted' In 'Once Upon a Time' This Season?

"She's a very motivated Dark One," Horowitz said. "There's a real driving force behind what she's doing and why, that we will unfurl. It's not like a rampant, uncontrollable evil that's been unleashed. Emma as a non-Dark One was a very smart person who did things for a reason, and I think that translates."

"She's clearly going to be hiding something from the audience that will be revealed as the first half of the season unfolds," Kitsis added.

The extent of Emma's darkness will be seen when she does something hurtful towards those trying to help her.

"Emma is going to do something particularly bad coming up, and to the people she loves," Kitsis teased.

As for the promo photo that featured Rumple in the woods guiding a hooded Emma, fans will receive answers very quickly into the season premiere.

"She did not travel time; she did travel realms. And why Rumple's there will be immediately explained within the first act of the premiere," Kitsis said.

Once Upon a Time season 5 premieres Sunday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
