Ann Curry supporters have not been shy in defending her oust from "Today."

Curry's former co-host, Matt Lauer, has been taking the heat from critics regarding her departure, according to TMZ. Sources told the gossip site that people yelled at him in the street, saying, "You're a bad guy," and it has left Lauer "freaked out."

The report added that Lauer, 54, has been "miserable" - complete strangers placed blame on him for her removal by telling him "You got Ann fired. Does that make you happy?"

"It's driving him crazy," an NBC source told TMZ. "He's so unhappy."

Curry fans have not only addressing her exit, they also made comments about Lauer's reported $25 million salary.

"Today" show ratings tanked ever since Curry was replaced by Savanna Guthrie in late June. Curry's tearful announcement on her last show drew so much ire that network executives  had to defend Lauer, stating he was not the reason she was replaced.

Enstarz reported in August that Curry's former colleagues anonymously disclosed that Lauer is "hated" by NBC executives and longtime staffers for possibly having a hand in her departure.

"There are several producers that have been with the 'TODAY Show' for a very long time, over ten years, and Matt Lauer is now hated by them because they feel that he is responsible for Ann Curry's being fired," a source told RadarOnline.

"The staffers of the 'TODAY Show' miss Ann tremendously and feel it was a mistake to replace her with Savannah," a different insider said in another report.

Lauer received criticism recently in social media after he questioned the beloved Ann Hathaway about the wardrobe malfunction she experienced when she arrived at the red carpet premiere of her latest film "Les Miserables" in New York City on Dec. 8.

When Hathaway, 30, stepped out her chauffeured SUV, she accidentally revealed that she wasn't wearing any underwear as paparazzi took photos of her. Two days later, when Hathaway sat down at "Today" for an interview to promote the film, Lauer said the following:

"We've seen a lot of you lately... Let's just get it out of the way. You had a little wardrobe malfunction. What is the lesson learned from that?"

Hathaway calmly addressed the subject and then turned the conversation to her role in the film. Immediately after the chat, Hathaway's fans defended her on Twitter. Here are some of the tweets:
