It’s no secret that Donald Trump is a ‘love him or hate him’ kind of presidential candidate, but comedian Kevin Hart surprised lots of fans when he gave Trump a thumbs up.

He chatted with Woodman in the Morning radio show earlier this month and had some pretty positive things to say about the controversial businessman.

“I will say, for Donald Trump, I think a lot of people like to say they can do things and never do them. I take my hat off to Donald Trump for simply trying to put his actions behind the words that he’s been saying for years.”

The actor and comedian added that Trump never goes easy on the leaders of the free world (he’s called out President Barack Obama more than a few times), so it only makes sense for him to take a stab and running himself.

“He actually put a campaign together to do it. So I applaud him simply for that, for following a dream I guess.”

As for the negative things people have to say about Trump, Hart said he has nothing but “respect” for him.

“Regardless of how we as people look at it, whether it’s positive or negative, the man [is] following through on what has become a passion for him. So I guess I can only respect him for that.”

Trump caught wind of Hart’s comments and took to Twitter to respond.

Trump’s take on topics such as immigration and women’s rights have become extremely controversial since he announced his run earlier this year.
