Activision Blizzard announced its Quarter 3 earnings report earlier this week, along with an announcement of a major acquisition for the company.

Overall, Activision Blizzard reported "better than expected earnings" for Q3 2015, earning $990 million in total revenues - an increase of over $200 million for the same quarter in 2014. This pushes the company's overall earnings for the fiscal year 2015 over $3.3 billion, an increase of over $500 million YTD from the previous year.

The company reports the number of Destiny players has risen to over 25 million, thanks in part to the Taken King expansion released in September. Astoundingly, the average Destiny gamer spends about three hours playing the game every day.

Activision is also preparing for the Nov. 6 launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which the company expects will help propel overall numbers throughout the holiday season.

On the Blizzard side of the company, World of Warcraft subscriber numbers remained around the 5.5 million mark, thanks to "key update released in the quarter." Blizzard also announced the newest expansion for the popular MMO, Legacy, with more news to come at BlizzCon this month.

Hearthstone's engagement numbers grew 77 percent, with The Grand Tournament helping to drive Blizzard's Quarter 3 earnings to record numbers.

The biggest news comes with the announcement that Activision Blizzard has obtained King Digital Entertainment, the makers of Candy Crush, for a whopping $5.9 billion. If any company knows how to make an addicting game even more so, it's Blizzard.
