The Vampire Diaries was the launching platform for The Originals and each CW series has its own set of stories to tell revolving around a bunch of colorful characters of the human and supernatural varieties.

There have been characters from The Originals that have appeared on The Vampire Diaries and vice versa since The Originals made its debut.

Claire Holt, the portrayer of Rebekah, appeared in The Vampire Diaries fifth season premiere, which happened to be the same date that The Originals launched. During the fifth season of The Vampire Diaries, Rebekah made a later appearance along with her siblings Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies).

Plus, Nina Dobrev appeared on The Originals, but not as Elena or even Katherine, which is whom she mostly portrayed on TVD. She took on the role of Tatia, which allowed for more insight into the Mikaelson family. And the werewolf from Mystic Falls, Tyler (Michael Trevino), has also appeared on TO.

So in some sense crossovers previously happened, but will there be a chance during the current seasons of these respective shows for any new crossovers to happen? Well, TVLine revealed there is a possibility down the line.

TVD executive producer Caroline Dries and TO executive producer Michael Narducci dished on the possibility of crossovers in the future.

"We've been thinking about how to make it work," Dries dished about future crossovers.

"Our storylines are such that [The Vampire Diaries is] flashing forward, spending a little time in the now and in the future, and [The Originals is] spending a little time in the now ... and in their distant pasts," Narducci explained, adding, "In this immediate moment, it doesn't necessarily lend itself to an easy merger of storyline. On both shows, you're going to see those particular storylines ... might have some more potential for common ground in the future."

And while any crossovers aren't likely at this very moment, things are definitely heating up on each show. TVD actually has another new character coming to Mystic Falls in future episodes. TVLine recently revealed that a vampire hunter named Rayna (Leslie-Anne Huff) would make her debut in the 12th episode.

The Vampire Diaries airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
