Coldplay frontman Chris Martin openned up in a recent radio interview with Ryan Seacrest on his relationship with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow as friends and co-parents to their two children, which has become an important factor to both.

The ex-couple may not be able to patch their previous relationship, but the two has certainly made a point to continue as being good friends for their daughter Apple, 11, and son Moses, 9.

"Just because a romantic relationship ends doesn't mean that the other facets of your relationship have to end," Martin said. "Or, indeed, doesn't mean they can't get better."

Both Martin, 38, and Paltrow, 43, are trying hard to make it work despite having relationships with other people. In connection to that statement, Paltrow revealed to E! News just this year that they are able to maintain having a good rapport despite no longer married.

"I think, unfortunately, though we couldn't stay in a romantic relationship, we're very, our values are very much around the importance of family and the importance of those relationships and I'm lucky that we're aligned in that way," the Oscar winner said this past summer at the #BlogHer15conference in New York, presented by SheKnows Media.

"And it's been hard," she admitted, "and you know, like, we've gone through really difficult times with it but we've always said these children are our priority."

Meanwhile, the "Scientist" singer reveals to Seacrest what he is currently into and realizes the importance of the things he does out of his work.

"To be totally honest with you, I'm so happy to be alive every day," Martin admits. "I've done lots of work on it to realize how lucky you are to wake up in the morning. That's really how I feel even on the days where I wake up and I feel a bit depressed or a bit worried or whatever. I'd rather be here than not here."
