Dana Brunetto, who is the director of Kevin Spacey's production company that supports House of Cards, talked about working on the show and dished a bit about the inspirations behind the series.

Hillary Clinton Thinks Show Is 'Bad TV'?

One of the highlights of the interview with ABC had to do with Brunetto talking about how close House of Cards was to the popular politics of the country. Brunetto revealed that alot of people picked different references from American political history. More interestingly, he even dropped the Clintons as one of the various inspirations behind the show:

"It's funny, because people see a lot of different people and presidents in all the different characters. I think we pull from a lot of different politics, not just from the US but all over. We pull them all together into some really juicy stories. It's quite funny, the first season we thought we were pushing it a little too far when we were shooting it, but when we went home at night and watched the news we were like, 'Maybe we're not pushing it far enough.'

New Characters To Threaten Frank In Season 4?

We pull from everywhere. There are little hints of a lot of the presidencies, including the Clintons, and others have been sprinkled in there, but it's not modeled after one president."

Brunetto also had thoughts about Spacey's peculiar Shakespearean style of portraying Frank Underwood.

"It's Shakespeare. It's very Macbeth and it's very manipulative that way. He's having a blast doing it and we're having a blast making it," he said. "I pushed him towards television because he loves live theatre so much, and what he loved about theatre was that he could evolve that character every night and with television he gets to do the same thing, he gets to evolve that character."

Season 4 of House of Cards will premiere in 2017.
