A movement which took off on social media is gaining strength after it was noted as being helpful for helping women remove the stigma attached from choosing to have abortions.

The movement, #ShoutYourAbortion, which debuted last week with a series of 15 videos where women spoke about their reasons for terminating pregnancies, is one which aims to remove the stigma of shame from the action, something that has become more poignant after the recent battle to defund Planned Parenthood.

"I think it's really powerful to watch a woman sit there and say, 'I wasn't ready,' or 'I didn't want to become a mother,' or 'I was in school,' or 'I knew my relationship was bad,'" movement co-founder Amelia Bonow told The Washington Post. "These are all totally valid reasons to choose to terminate a pregnancy, and when you look at a woman's face and she tells you, 'I just wasn't ready'--that's enough. And this culture has never made women feel like that's enough."

Bonow became a figurehead of the movement after she initially posted about her own abortion on social media following the House of Representatives' vote in September to defund Planned Parenthood-and her decision to share her experience has inspired several others to do the same.

Several women came forward with their stories via the movement's video project series, and others have since also spoken up on Twitter, detailing their own accounts and sharing reasons behind why they chose to end a pregnancy of their own, and have also shared that they don't regret making the decisions they did.
