On Wednesday night, FX will premiere its latest drama "The Americans," which is a one-hour series revolving around espionage.

The highly anticipated show stars Matthew Rhys from "Brothers & Sisters" and Keri Russell, who is best know for her role on "Felicity." The two actors play an undercover married couple Phillip and Elizabeth Jennings during the 1980's Cold War time period.

Directive S, a fictional superspy mission program, took the two young Russians with flawless English speaking abilities and gave them brand new identities as the Jennings'.

The two Russian spies are then sent to America to establish their lives until they're given further directions.

In the pilot, Ronald Reagan has just taken his seat as the President of the U.S. while the Jennings family, now a couple of travel agents with two kin, blends into the suburbs of Washington, D.C.

When the Cold War gets underway for the last time, the Kremlin starts making unreasonable demands.

While Phillip seems to genuinely love his fictional wife, Elizabeth is more focused on her mission and doesn't look to be fully embracing her arranged marriage anytime soon.

"You're my wife," Phillip tells Elizabeth before she cuts the tension by pointing a knife (no pun intended) and responding with "Is that right?"

Although Phillip appears to remain loyal to his bogus wife, he isn't so keen on the USSR anymore.

Perplexed that one of them may be in danger, he comes clean with his fears to Elizabeth before heading to a meeting that may lead to his ambush.

"If they are there - if it's me - they'll be at the house in an hour."

Despite Phillip's ongoing qualms about his life-threatening lifestyle, he does go all in when it comes to playing the part, by sporting dentures and wigs.

"The Americans" will premiere on the FX network on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 10 p.m. ET
