'Castle' season 8 co-showrunners Terence Paul Winter & Alexi Hawley dished some major details about the show such as addressing Kate's pregnancy rumors, as well as the show's ratings.
Rick and Kate are called in to investigate the death of a singer in a famous acapella group. Apparently, Bleu is going to play a character named Hunter Washington, who is the leader of a rival acapella group.
As much as fans want to see a mini-Kate anytime soon, the show's co-showrunners Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley recently denied the rumors that Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) will be pregnant, as giving Kate a pregnancy storyline isn't their priority at the moment.
"This was a question that came up at the beginning of the season, and for us, at least right now, we don't know how the show would work like that. I understand that other shows have done that, but for us, because Beckett is so 'boots on the ground,' kicking a** and taking names, it's hard to imagine what a pregnant Beckett solving cases look like," Hawley shared. Winter also said that he believes writing Kate's pregnancy for the second half of season 8 wouldn't be beneficial to the ABC series.
According to the co-showrunners, it is necessary to ask themselves time and time again how the character's pregnancy would help in the development of the story. Additionally, Winter said that this doesn't mean that Kate will never get pregnant if the series gets renewed for more seasons.
There's a moment in the preview where Rick attempts to sing along with the group in order to lighten the tension in the room but it clearly does not go over well with Hunter and his friends.
Aside from Bleu's cameo appearance in episode nine, the mid season premiere will also focus on Rick and Kate's struggle to hide their relationship. So that's something to watch out for!
Winter and Hawley also weighed in on 'Castle's' ratings for season 8. The publication noted that the once hit series hasn't been doing well compared to its previous seasons. Hawley said that even though the show no longer has 13 million loyal viewers, its current nine to 10 million a week is still not that bad.
"Obviously, the 18 to 49 demo number is not as strong as we'd like it to be, but all we can do is try to tell really good stories and hope that people want to watch them," Hawley said.
'Castle' season 8 will return to ABC on Feb. 1, 2016 at 10 p.m. ET.
In season 8 episode 8, Kate and Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) agreed to fix their marriage, and work together on LokSat.
