Katherine Heigl sat down with the ladies of The View today and revealed that she regrets leaving her character Dr. Izzie and the hit show Grey’s Anatomy behind.

"Oh yeah, sometimes, yeah. You miss it. I miss my friends. It was a great work environment ... and it becomes a family. I spent six years together with these people every day ... you grow up together, in a way," Heigl said.

Heigl originally left the show to focus on her movie career and raise her three-year-old daughter, Naleigh.

She also said that she would love to return to the show to see where her character is and has already approached producers about it. However, she has not been asked back yet.

"I always felt that if they wanted me to come back and sort of wrap up that storyline ... I want them to know that I'm down with it if they want me to, but I completely understand if it doesn't necessarily work ... They've got a lot of story lines going on there," she explained.

In 2010, Heigl abruptly left the show after not showing up for work and being released from her contract.
