So Empire has seen a drop in ratings this season after taking over television earlier this year. But now an executive producer for the Fox series has revealed they agree with one of the biggest slams the show has gotten this time around.

From Alicia Keys to NeYo, Ludacris, Chris Rock and more, Empire has seen much more than its fair share of celebrity cameos.

That might have turned off lots of viewers, and Danny Strong, who serves as executive producer and co-creator, confessed that it was coming on a little much and they plan to switch things up for the rest of the season.

“I do think we’ve had too many guest stars and we’ve already started course-correcting in the last portion of this first part of Season 2, especially in the tail end,” he told Deadline recently. “We’ll be seeing even less guest stars going into the second half of the season as the show will get a little tighter, more focused on the Lyon family and our core group of characters.”

Still, Strong isn’t bothered after the show saw a drop in viewers this season. He said that it’s “completely natural.” But he wasn’t always at ease with it.

“At first it made everyone very nervous because it hadn’t happened before and we had this crazy ratings success.”

He added that even though they “leveled off” for a few episodes, they still hold the crown for the top slot.

“People are still watching the show in really huge numbers.”
