While there has been a flurry of new information surrounding Transformers 5, and we know much more about the sequels and prequels that have been lined up for the franchise, an old rumor about the sequel for Age of Extinction sticks.

Unicron To Play Villain In Transformers 5?

Earlier this year, there was much speculation about the fact that the Age of Extinction sequel woul take place in parallel universes -- one in Cybertron where Optimus Prime has gone to look for his maker and the other on mortal land where the autobots will fight new antagonists. With the new developments, we assumed that the previously suggested plot had fizzled out, but new reports are suggesting otherwise. Reports from iSchoolGuide.com and Yibada are sticking to the old storyline.

In a previous interview with IGN, Akiva Goldsman, the head writer for Transformers 5, dished some about the sequels.

Optimus Prime To Bid Farewell In Transformers 5

One of the interesting reveals was about the animated prequel that has been conceptualized for the series. Goldsman said that "it takes place before Optimus and Megatron ever come to Earth."

The prequel will focus on Cybertron as an origin story, and it is going to be an animated feature helmed by Ant-Man writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.

He also spoke about other interesting aspects of the film like the inclusion of humans, and if the Transformers and humans need each other.

"Do I think Transformers can live without humans? Sure. Do I think humans can live without Transformers? Sure. In Transformers movies?" he says. "Sure! But, fundamentally, there seems to be something really great about the interaction between the two species. I think that, in the main, I would suggest that that would be something you wouldn't want to squander. Although that doesn't mean that you couldn't do all sorts of things for a little while."

Transformers 5 is set to release in 2017.
