Friends called it quite after 10 seasons, and The Big Bang Theory may follow suit.

From comic book stores to the ISS to the Star Wars premiere, Big Bang Theory has followed the lives of Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Raj (Kunal Nayyar), Howard (Simon Helberg), and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) since 2007, but the series' 2016-2017 run could be its last.

"The reality is that maybe Season 10 is the ending point," showrunner Steve Molaro told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday. "I don't know and all I can do right now is go episode to episode and try to make each one the best that we can."

Fans shouldn't mourn the loss of primetime's seminal nerds just yet, however. Season 9 is only half way through, and with over 20 episodes planed for next season, The Big Bang Theory still has plenty of story to tell.

"There's still so many episodes to go," Molaro added. "Even if hypothetically Season 10 was the end, I wouldn't be focusing on that yet. That seems like something that would be dealt with way down the line."

The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
