Despite a minor increase in viewers from last week, the American Horror Story: Hotel finale was the least watch season conclusion in the show's history.

Where Does 'Hotel' Fall On Your 'American Horror Story' Season Ranking?

The American Horror Story: Hotel finale was watched by 2.25 million viewers (live and same-day) Wednesday night, according to Deadline. While ratings were up from the penultimate episode last week, which drew a mere 1.84 million viewers, it is still the least watched season finale in American Horror Story's run.

Ratings have gradually sunk down since the premiere of AHS: Hotel, which was watched by 5.81 million viewers. The series averaged around 2.5 million viewers through most of the season, which is down from the viewership in Coven and Freak Show.

'American Horror Story' Boss Confirms Angela Bassett Returning For Season 6?

However, Deadline reports that the series was watched by about 10.5 million viewers on average across all linear and nonlinear platforms, according to FX. And this is actually up from 21 percent from Freak Show. So it seems that while less people are watching it live, many more have taken to other platforms such as On Demand, DVR, online streaming, etc.

Perhaps the shift to online streaming and other platforms is part of a gradual shift in the TV industry. With so many ways to catch up on your favorite show, it's becoming less and less necessary to watch it live.

It remains to be seen if season 6 of American Horror Story will be a revival for the series' live ratings or if they will continue to trend downward.

American Horror Story season 6 premieres this fall on FX.
