HBO's The Leftovers finally took home a trophy at last night's Critics' Choice Awards!

'The Leftovers' Showrunner Talks How 'The Sky's The Limit' For Season 3

Carrie Coon, who plays Nora Durst on The Leftovers, won the Critics' Choice Award for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series Sunday night. She beat such major contenders as Viola Davis from ABC's How to Get Away with Murder, Taraji P. Henson from Fox's Empire and Eva Green from Showtime's Penny Dreadful.

This was Coon's first major acting award, so she took the opportunity to make a quip during her speech. "Now I have something to replace the candy jar I won in the fourth grade spelling bee!" she said.

The Top 10 Television Shows Of 2015

Coon thanked series co-creators Tom Perrotta and Damon Lindelof and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association, admitting that she does read reviews and is very thankful for the many positive reviews that have come out of this season of The Leftovers.

Unfortunately, none of Coon's co-stars won a trophy last night. Stars Justin Theroux (who plays Kevin Garvey), Christopher Eccleston (Matt Jamison), Ann Dowd (Patti Levin) and Regina King (Erika Murphy) were all nominated but lost their categories. The show was also nominated for Best Drama Series but lost to USA's Mr. Robot.

Regardless, this is a big win for Coon and the whole Leftovers community, considering the show has largely been shut out at many other award shows, including the Emmys. It remains to be seen if Coon or any of her cast members can get nominated at this summer's Emmys.

The Leftovers season 3 does not yet have a set premiere date.
