Hubert accused Smith of leading the boycott only because her husband Will Smith, who starred in Fresh Prince with Hubert before a huge falling out, was not given a nod after his role in Concussion.

But Jada said there is a much bigger picture involved.

“Considering that Alabama had its highest recruitment for the KKK for Martin Luther King’s birthday, I hope that we as African-Americans can find a way to get along and step together,” Jada said to Entertainment Tonight Wednesday. “This whole Oscar controversy isn’t really about the Oscars. Will has also responded to critics’ claims that Jada is not going to this year’ s Academy Awards because he was not nominated. He agreed that it is not about him but added he was proud of her.

“I was happy to be married to that woman. I appreciated the push,” he told Good Morning America.

He also said he will not be going this year.
