Hades (Greg Germann) is expected to be a very "fun" character on ABC's Once Upon a Time.

How 'Important' Will Belle Be In Upcoming 'Once Upon a Time' Arc?

The second half of season 5 of the ABC fantasy series will introduce Hades, the infamous god of the Underworld from Greek mythology and featured prominently in Disney's animated film Hercules.

Germann spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently about playing Hades and how fun and challenging it's been thus far.

"Hades is such a fun, endlessly creative challenge," Germann said. "Anything goes. The creators bring him to life on the page with the same out-of-the-box unpredictability that they bring to the rest of the show. They strike the perfect balance between keeping things grounded and letting things fly - sometimes literally."

Once Upon a Time co-creator Edward Kitsis also spoke about the humorous villain, adding, "Hades is a very dangerous fellow, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun being the Devil."

It's entirely possible that despite many of our heroes heading to the Underworld, not all of them will make it out alive, which Kitsis alluded to.

"When you go to a place that's surrounded by death and you think you can get out, maybe that's not so easy," Kitsis teased.

He noted that the characters' past will come back to haunt them as they enter the Underworld, considering how many dead characters will be back, including Peter Pan (Robbie Kay) and Cora (Barbara Hershey).

Once Upon a Time season 5 returns on Sunday, March 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
