A knife has been found buried at O.J. Simpson's former estate, and the Los Angeles Police Department is now investigating for blood residue.

Did The New Yorker Piece On Racism Really Impact The O.J. Simpson Case?

It was a construction worker that found the knife buried on the perimeter of Simpson's property, but this wasn't a recent development. The worker found the knife "several years ago," according to TMZ's sources.

The construction worker had given the weapon, a folding buck knife, to a LAPD officer, who was part of the traffic division and off duty at that time. TMZ's sources say that the cop took the knife home and kept it there for years.

Then, in January, the cop was retiring from the force and spoke with a friend at LAPD's Robbery Homicide Division about the knife and spoke of wanting to get it framed. He asked the friend for the Department Record number of the Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman case, so that he could get it engraved into the frame.

Of course, the friend was outraged and told superior officers about the knife, leading to the cop handing over the knife to the LAPD. The police is now investigating the knife for hair and fingerprints, and eventually other evidence.

Even if police do find damning evidence, though, O.J. will not be charged again due to double jeopardy.

This major development comes amid renewed interest in O.J.'s murder trial. The new FX miniseries American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson is currently airing and doing very well in the ratings, despite some decreases.
