CBS announced on Wednesday that it renewed CSI actor Ted Danson's contract and will be indeed air a 14th season of the show, according to The Washington Post.

Danson began his CSI acting career in the fall of 2011 where he played D.B. Russell, a new supervisor who had headed a crime lab in Seattle. His co-star Elisabeth Shue joined in February 2012.

CBS stated that the remainder of the show's cast will also return next season.

"The writers and producers have done an amazing job evolving CSI, reinventing the show around an incredible leading man in Ted Danson, the acclaimed Elisabeth Shue and our beloved and talented core of original cast members," said CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler in Wednesday's announcement.

Spinoffs of the show, such as CSI: Miami, ended last May and rumors stated that CSI: NY will not air beyond May of this year.

CSI is one of the best performing 10 p.m. dramas on broadcast TV, according to the news report. The time slot is typically a challenging time frame for broadcasters these days because of heavy DVR viewing and very aggressive counterprogramming by cable networks.

The show is averaging just under 12 million viewers this season, with nearly 4 million of the country's 18-to-49 year olds watching the popular series. It's the country's 24th most popular English language broadcast show.
