Twenty-year-old singer Demi Lovato confirmed on Thursday that she will return to be a judge on season three of The X Factor and fellow judge Simon Cowell is thrilled, despite their clashing moments.

Cowell said in a statement, "I couldn't be happier that Demi wants to come back this year. She's a superstar in her own right and was a fantastic mentor last year. Even though she can be really, really annoying - I truly enjoyed working with her and so did the artists."

People reported in November 2012 that the two clashed after performer Paige Thomas sang Take My Breath Away. Lovato was Thomas' mentor and Cowell said of the judge, "Madame, could have used a little more imagination in terms of the production of the song."

Lovato bit back by sarcastically saying she was sorry she let him down but "Obviously everybody in the audience disagrees with you."

In a statement released Thursday, Lovato said of her return "last season was an unbelievable experience and I really enjoyed developing personal relationships with the contestants and the panel. I look forward to taking my previous experience and applying it to make this season even better!"

Season three of The X Factor begins on Sept. 11.
