Pokemon fans around the world have high hopes for the franchise this year, especially with the release of highly anticipated augmented reality game Pokemon GO, as well as the release of Pokemon Sun and Moon for the New 3DS, which was unveiled last February. On Tuesday, Nintendo graciously revealed the North American release date of its latest flagship handheld title, which is set to Nov. 18.

Thus, by the end of the year, Pokemon fans would be able to take a crack at the latest entry into the franchise's esteemed handheld line. After all, since the debut of Pokemon Yellow, Red and Blue all those years back, the franchise's growth and influence has been augmented significantly by the success of its handheld games.

What's particularly interesting about Nintendo's announcement on Monday were the gaming aspects which were included in the game's official trailer. During the brief clips showing the actual gameplay of the upcoming title, the starters of Pokemon Sun and Moon were featured prominently.

Pokemon Sun and Moon continues the franchise's tradition of having players pick among a Grass, Fire and Water-type Pokemon. In the upcoming game, users would be picking between Rowlet, a grass/flying-type owl, Litten, a fire-type cat and Popplio, a water-type seal.

From what could be seen in the trailer so far, the three starter Pokemon are pretty awesome in their own right, with numerous fans online stating that Sun and Moon's fire-type Pokemon might very well be a favorite among players.

Apart from the starter Pokemon, the trailer also showed something very significant. As could be seen in some scenes during the trailer, character customization is possible in the game. Thus, gamers could immerse themselves like never before with characters that are designed completely to their liking.

Lastly, the trailer also showed a glimpse of the two legendary Pokemon that is to be featured in the game. So far, the two legendaries for this iteration seem to be a majestic lion-type Pokemon and a massive bat-esque monster. Unfortunately, Nintendo has not released the names of these two legendary Pokemon as of writing.

This year is one to remember for Pokemon fans, indeed.
