The Legends of Tomorrow will go for broke in the season 1 finale.

The series' penultimate episode left multiple storylines up in the air, but, as Rip's (Arthur Darvill) team moves to take down Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) once and for all, their biggest asset and greatest detriment is the destruction of the Oculus.

"With the destruction of the Oculus, we very clearly said to the characters and the audience that there is no more destiny. There is no more future. It literally is 'everything is up for grabs,'" executive producer Marc Guggenheim told IGN. "The question that now faces the team is, with everything up for grabs, what are they going to do? With no future to guide them, are they going to give up? Are they going to press on? What is going to happen? Everything is now in play."

As "Legendary" begins, Darvill's character will drop his surviving heroes back in 2016. It's time for the Legends to individual decide if they want to stay in the fight, and, for those who do, the final moments of episode 16 will launch them into a brand new story.

"I can say the finale feels like a climax," showrunner Phil Klemmer told TV Guide. "This series was always meant to be something that we could never [repeat] themes [or] stories [in]. We always meant to leave it all on the field and burn all of our bridges so Season 2 would effectively have to be a totally new premise and a totally new setup. So yeah, we're really burning it down with our finale."

This will, in part, have to do with the arrival of Patrick J. Adams' mystery character. A hero with a penchant for capes, Adams' newbie will burst on to the scene as season 1 draws to a close.

"It's someone who, when we wrote that final scene of the final episode, we didn't know the implications of what his appearance means for the series," Klemmer teased, according to TV Guide. "It's sort of great to give yourself a puzzle that you have to solve in reverse, because it really has forced us to think about Season 2."
