In yet another momentous announcement, the first official image of Black Goku, the main antagonist of the upcoming Dragon Ball Super arc, has been released. From what could be determined from the image of the villain, it would seem like his background, as well as his journey towards darkness, would involve the gods indeed.

One thing that definitely stands out from Black Goku's image is the green Potara earring that the character is wearing. Interestingly, the exact same earring is found on a Dragon Ball Xenoverse character, Demigra, who is a demon god. Since Potara earrings are also utilized for fusions, some fans are now speculating that Black Goku probably became evil after a fusion with the demon god.

As interesting as this notion is, however, Demigra has so far been exclusive to Dragon Ball Xenoverse. Thus, he is a non-canonical character in the anime. Then again, with Akira Toriyama introducing deities such as Zeno and the gods of destruction in the Dragon Ball Super canon, it would not be very surprising at all if the anime brings a video game character into the upcoming arc.

Of course, since Potara earrings are worn by Kais as a part of their usual attire, a number of fans are also speculating that Black Goku might very well have attained godlike power in the future. Indeed, this notion does go parallel with the speculation that Black Goku would be at least as powerful as the gods of destruction when he is introduced.

After all, Toriyama himself did state that Black Goku would cause trouble so severe that the most powerful beings in the universe such as the Omni King would end up being involved in the upcoming battle as well. If the earrings are any indication, this does indeed seem to be the case.

The title of 47th Dragon Ball Super episode has been revealed as SOS From the Future! A New Black Enemy Reveals Himself! The episode, which would herald the beginning of the new arc, is set to be aired on June 12.
