It's just a couple of days before Dragon Ball Super's Future Trunks arc begins, and from what could be seen among the franchise's fans, the hype for the upcoming storyline is very real. With the teaser trailer and a poster recently released, speculations about the possible identity of Black Goku have once more emerged.

As could be seen in the promotional poster of the next arc in Dragon Ball Super, Black Goku is wearing a green Potara earring, exactly the same type that a demon god from Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Demigra, is wearing. Thus, Dragon Ball aficionados are speculating that Black Goku's descent into evil might be due to the fact that Future Goku ended up fusing with a powerful being who turned out to be so evil, it corrupted Goku's heart.

In the Dragon Ball mythos, Goku has always been portrayed as a pure-hearted character who simply wants to be stronger. In fact, whenever Goku meets a character that is more powerful than him, he becomes almost obsessed with reaching the same level of power as those who are stronger than him.

Since Dragon Ball Super has already introduced ridiculously powerful beings such as Zeno, it is possible that at some point in the future, Goku would fail in his attempts to reaching a certain level of power. A number of fans are speculating that Goku, in his pursuit of strength, might end up becoming a God of Destruction. Even as a god, however, he would still fall far behind the Omni King.

If there's one thing that Goku is, it is the fact that he is very, very stubborn. Thus, he might end up not accepting that some things are just impossible for him to achieve, resulting in a desperate attempt to acquire higher power. Doing so might have introduced Goku into a darker form of power, something which a demon god like Demigra would be able to offer.

The Potara earring that Black Goku is wearing in the promotional poster is definitely a very important plot device in the upcoming arc. Indeed, June 12, the date when the new arc is set to begin, could not start any earlier.
