Nashville was fortunate enough to get a renewal despite being canceled from television-- so what was it that went wrong?

On Saturday, Deadline posted a report from ABCS EVP Patrick Moran on bringing the canceled series to CMT for a new season. It wasn't an easy process, but it all worked out in the end.

"There are a lot of people that spend a lot of time looking at the economics of these shows," Moran said. "It's a giant puzzle that you put all these pieces together that you hope covers the cost of the show and a little extra. It's tricky when each one of those line items gets tighter."

What makes this concept a little trickier is the fact that the show will air on a smaller cable net. But since the new episodes will stream on Hulu the day after they air, that's bound to help it out.

"I'm so happy we were able to keep [Nashville] alive, but the economics were tight," Moran said. "I'm happy we were able to make this work with Hulu and CMT."

The fans should also be proud of themselves for spreading the word that they wanted to see the series continue its story.

"I do think if there is a certain degree of passion for some of these shows it helps in keeping some momentum and some traction," Moran explained. "But it is a complicated equation and you do feel the pressure of it not making as much money."

At this point, it's still unclear if all the actors from the former ABC drama will return for the fifth season. But hopefully there will be some closure on what happened to Juliette and the call in distress from her flight.
