There may be some new hope for Steven Avery, the Wisconsin native whose multiple trials were documented in the Netflix series Making a Murderer.

Good things seem to be happening in both Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey's, case. Both were convicted for the 2005 murder of photographer Teresa Halbach, for which they remain in prison to this day. However, with Dassey's ruling being overturned recently due to what was ruled as an improper handling of his interrogation, plus Avery's new attorney, Kathleen Zellner, building a case for his innocence, both men could soon find themselves free men.

Zellner spoke with The New York Times recently about the mounting evidence she is collecting to prove Avery's innocence in the murder, admitting that there's even a new suspect.

"There is evidence that already exists in the case that points to a different location and a different suspect," she said. "We've got a combination of forensic evidence and a tip from somebody that we've interviewed multiple times that we think is credible."

Zellner has particularly been investigating the various evidence used to convict Avery, including his blood on Halbach's car and his DNA on her car key. There is the possibility that such evidence was planted, and new testing could soon reveal if this was the case.

"It's possible all of it will be done within 60 days," Zellner told The New York Times. "It may not all be successful, but I believe if even one bit of evidence is planted, the conviction is going to be vacated."

This all comes amid the news that Making a Murderer filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos are filming a second season for Netflix.

"We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series," Ricciardi and Demos said in a statement. "The viewers' interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold."

Making a Murderer season 2 does not have a release date, though you can watch all 10 episodes of the first season now on Netflix.
