Man Loses Life Savings in Carnival Game: New Hampshire Man Loses $2,600
Henry Gribbohm says he lost his life savings, $2,600 worth, on a carnival game.
The New Hampshire man was playing Tubs of Fun at a Manchester carnival when the incident occurred, according to CBS.
The game, which was offering an Xbox Kinect as a prize, quickly swallowed up $300 of Gribbohm's cash, after which he went home to find $2,300 more, reports the Huffington Post.
"You hear about stuff like this, but you don't expect it at a carnival like this," Gribbohm said, according to the Union Leader. "The two guys at that game knew what they were doing, and they were very good. I know I fell for it. I was feeling good and I never recognized what was happening, but you just don't think about that at something like a carnival like this."
The next day the 30-year-old man went back to the Fiesta Shows carnival to demand his money back. He walked away with $600 and a giant banana with dreadlocks, after which he headed to the police station to file a complaint, states Mashable.
According to the Huffington Post, while the police investigate the matter, a representative of Fiesta rebukes the claim that Gribbohm spent as large a sum of money as he states.
Although the Union Leader states that the book Carnival Fraud Investigations 101 explains how carnival employees make the game so difficult to win, Gribbohm acknowledges the failings of his decision to keep playing
"For once in my life I happened to become that sucker," Gribbohm said according to The Hollywood Gossip. "It was foolish for putting up my life savings."
