Banned Baby Names in New Zealand Include Lucifer, Messiah or Mafia No Fear
If you live in New Zealand and want to name your newborn Lucifer, Messiah, or Mafia No Fear, then you're out of luck.
According to UPI, The Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriage in New Zealand have released a new list of band names and the amount of times the names have been requested in the last 12 years.
CNN reports that names cannot resemble a title or rank (no Kings, Queens, or Princesses, please) cause offense to a reasonable person (Anal was rejected), or be unreasonably long.
While these rules have apparently been in place since 1995, there have been some rather interesting baby names that were either created before the creation of the rules, or have since slipped past the government's censors. The Daily News reports one of the more notable cases from 2008, during which a 9-year-old girl became a ward of the court so that her name could be changed from "Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii."
According to CNN, other bizarre names to make it through included Number 16 Bus Station and Violence.
By the numbers, the most requested banned name in the last 12 years was Justice (requested 62 times) while some of the more unusal ones were only requested once. These include 4real, '.' (pronounced 'full stop'), and Rogue.
