The Once Upon a Time showrunners have revealed why Hyde (Sam Witwer) has decided to make Storybrooke his new dominion.

Hyde struck a deal with Rumple (Robert Carlyle) in the season 5 finale of Once Upon a Time, giving him access to Storybrooke. This is the place where Hyde can let his story play out to its furthest extent, according to showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

"When we get into his backstory, you'll realize that some people may be in the Land of Untold Stories in a way where they're 'trapped,'" Kitsis explained to TVLine this week. "So, similar to the way Hook wanted to get to the Land Without Magic, so he could kill Gold, you'll realize Hyde wants to get to Storybrooke so that his story can play out."

Of course, Hyde has also come with some "friends" from the Land of Untold Stories, who could find the move to Storybrooke to be a good thing or a bad thing.

"Well, it might be a gain, and it might be a loss - it depends on the character," Horowitz said, with Kitsis adding, "There are some who will definitely need Emma [Jennifer Morrison] and the heroes' help, and there are some who will be looking to darker forces."

Horowitz also explained how the emigration of these characters with untold stories will have implications on our heroes.

"In Season 1, much of it was about these stories we knew that ended in a certain way, and what happened after. This is a slight tweak on that idea, which is: What happens to some of these stories if they don't quite finish the way we thought they did, and were suspended midstream? What would make characters want to suspend their stories? And what would happen once they restarted? What you will see is that as their paused stories begin again, that has implications for them and for our Storybrooke characters."

Once Upon a Time season 6 premieres Sunday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
