As the season finale of Grey's Anatomy approaches, the show's executive producer talks more about what fans can expect to see - including an "emotional death" set to take place.

With only two episodes remaining to season 9 of the ABC series, Shonda Rhimes talked plot points between Cristina and Owen and more with The Hollywood Reporter.

Last season's finale showcased a plane crash that shook the lives of the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. As one doctor fights for their life in the season 9 finale, Rhimes said "when we leave the season, we're definitely going to be worried about one of our own."

"I don't think that anything can match the brutality of last year's finale for me," Rhimes added. "I don't think we're going to match that but for a lot of our characters, it's a much more emotional. There's a lot of emotional death."

Owen continues to care for Ethan following his mother's death and the reality of the situation will force Owen and Cristina to have "the talk" about potentially having children of their own, though so far they have dodged the topic of discussion. Rhimes said "they keep tabling the discussion because they truly love each other....They can no longer not talk about this."

Rhimes confirmed that the couple is "going to actually have the conversation." However, she added "we should be concerned about the future of every couple." Ethan's grandmother contemplates between choosing social services and Owen and in that regards Rhimes said "we have some twists up our sleeve."

"There's plenty that Owen is going to learn and realize. He clearly has made a choice in his mind that he's chosen Cristina and he's is with Cristina but I think things are going to get bumpy there for a while."

The finale airs on May 16 and is titled Perfect Storm. It was revealed in April that the episode will feature a natural disaster similar to Superstorm Sandy that will shake the hospital and its staff.

In the May 2 episode, viewers saw a new craniofacial specialist (guest star Hilarie Burton) blatantly flirted with Arizona. She enjoyed the attention but Camille seemed uncomfortable by the whole situation. Jo turned to Alex after what seemed to be a case of domestic violence at the hands of her ex-boyfriend. A super storm is also on its way to Seattle, putting Meredith and her unborn son at risk.

Episode 23, Readiness Is All, airs on May 9.
