Grey's Anatomy season 9's two-part finale begins on Thursday with episode 23, titled Readiness Is All.

A preview video for the episode shows a storm headed toward Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Alex also looks ready to beat up Jason for hitting Jo and Meredith falls down the stairs, which might put her unborn child at risk.

The show's executive producer, Shonda Rhimes, spoke recently to The Hollywood Reporter about what fans can expect to see in the upcoming episode. She hinted that Meredith's delivery will not take place in the most ideal circumstances.

"Meredith is basically giving birth in the last-worst situation you'd want to be giving birth. It's going to be not so pleasant for her," Rhimes said. "Ellen (Pompeo) did really beautiful work and the story we told is really charged, interesting and strong. It's the last way you'd want anybody to ever have to have a baby and that's Meredith Grey. Things obviously don't come easy for Meredith Grey."

Rhimes added that Derek "possibly, maybe will be around" for the birth of his child.

The showrunner also talked about Alex and Jo's relationship, saying he will "behave in ways that are surprisingly un-Alex" as he makes his way through a "fairly complicated situation."

"Not all is as it seems coming out of last night's episode," she said. "There's a journey that happens in these last two episodes for him with Jo as they move through the storm."
