Last night, the two candidates were asked about abortions as a result of prior questions regarding the appointment of a new Supreme Court judge to replace Antonin Scalia.

While Hillary Clinton chose a pro-choice stance, claiming she fully supports Roe v. Wade and that it "very clearly sets out that there can be regulations on abortion so long as the life and the health of the mother are taken into account."

Donald Trump's stance was radically different: "You can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb in the ninth month on the final day."

I believe what Trump is referring to is a Cesarean section, which is a perfectly common and safe procedure chosen by many women to deliver their children.

Late-term abortions are different. Jen Gunter, an OBGYN trained in late-term abortions, took to Twitter last night to debunk Trump's rationale.

Additionally, "partial birth" -- a term both Trump and moderator Wallace referred to -- refers to a political and not medical term, where the fetus is extracted through the birth canal and only then aborted. These happen only when the health of the mother is in danger, or if the fetus will not be able to survive outside the womb or has a life-threatening abnormality.
