At least a dozen people were injured during a shooting at a New Orleans Mother's Day Parade.

According to the Associated Press, Police Superintendent Ronald Serpas of the New Orleans Police Department stated that 12 people were injured when gunfire broke out at around 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place by the intersection of Frenchmen and North Villere Streets, according to Fox 8 New Orleans. An estimated 300 people were watching a Mother's Day second line - a brass band parade - when the event occurred.

NOPD is in search of three suspected gunmen. RT reports that the suspects were seen running towards Claiborne Avenue following the shooting.

Serpas said that there were probably two different weapons used.

"Obviously, these are unusual circumstances," Serpas said, according to WDSU. "We have second lines that occur in the City of New Orleans virtually every weekend this time of the year. We had a full complement of police officers (on detail)."

WWLTV reports that nine victims were taken to University Hospital, three of who are in critical condition. The youngest victim was a 10-year-old girl who allegedly suffered graze wounds.

"It appears that these two or three people just for a reason unknown to us started shooting at towards or in the crowd," Serpas told WDSU. "It was over in just a matter of seconds. Police were everywhere."
