Netflix's Stranger Things is sweeping with nominations at almost every awards organization there is, which could be a big indicator of future Emmy love.

Stranger Things was one of the major phenomenons of 2016, with Netflix users falling in love with this generation's answer to The Goonies. With great performances from newcomers like Millie Bobby Brown to established veterans like Winona Ryder, a killer soundtrack and an irresistible sci-fi plot, the show became a bonafide sensation.

Now, the entertainment industry is responding to it in a big way. While awards groups have typically shied away from "genre" shows like Stranger Things, the show has not missed a step this award season. The series is nominated for two Golden Globes, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Writers Guild of America Awards and was named one of the Top 10 shows of the year by the American Film Institute.

The Netflix series also received nominations from the Critics' Choice Awards and even more guild awards, like the Producers Guild of America Awards, the Art Directors Guild Awards and the ACE Eddie Awards.

Needless to say, the industry is in love with Stranger Things. While the Primetime Emmy nominations will be announced in July, long after all of these awards will be handed out, it's becoming clear that the show easily has enough support to nab major nominations.

A Drama Series nomination seems very likely, even with steep competition, and Brown and Ryder have received the lion's share of acting nominations so far, so both seem pretty likely to get their first Emmy nominations, respectively. Considering the impressive technical elements of the show, it will also likely clean up in the technical categories like sound, editing, production design and score.

It remains to be seen if Stranger Things will pick up wins at any of these awards groups, but the show's impressive awards run should help tide fans over while waiting for season 2. Production has already begun on season 2, which is expected to drop in 2017 on Netflix. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
