The wait is nearly over, as Showtime's Dexter will be kicking off its eighth and final season in just a little over a month.

While the majority of the TV series has primarily focused on America's favorite serial killer, Dexter (Michael C. Hall), one of the biggest storylines moving forward will be the downfall of his sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), who finished off Season 7 with the killing of Captain LaGuerta (Lauren Velez).

Hall recently sat down with TV Guide and addressed Deb's demise, as Season 8 will begin with Carpenter's character in a much different place then fans are used to.

"Things are strange.  Deb left the police department, and she's not in a good place.  Dexter feels a sense of responsibility for what happened and wants to make things right, but they're not exactly connecting," he explained.

Principle talent aside, the eighth season of Dexter will see the following actors brought on board for its farewell installment:

The Shield's Kenny Johnson, 24's Julian Sands, Last Resort's Darri Ingolfsson, Boondock Saints' Sean Patrick Flannery, and Walking Dead's Nick Gomez.

Showtime's Dexter is set to make its return on Sunday, June 30 at 9/8 p.m. Central.
