Four people are dead following the collision of two single engine planes in Arizona on Friday morning.

At around 10:30 a.m. the two planes collided in the air and crashed into the dessert 15 miles north of Phoenix, according to Reuters. Following the crash one of the planes caught fire. All four people involved in the crash are now deceased.

"Both of them collided. We don't know how or what," said Phoenix Fire Department Capt. Larry Nunez, according to The Associated Press. "The skies are clear."

The two planes were later identified as a Piper Archer III and a Cesna. According to Reuters, the Piper Archer III was owned by the TransPac Aviation Academy while the Cessna belonged to the Westwind School of Aeronautics.

TransPac later stated that one of their instructors had pass away in the crash but did not reveal a name, according to The Associated Press. The two men who perished in the Piper Archer III were identified by police, according to Reuters. However, the two bodies from the Cesna have yet to be identified.

The National Transportation Safty Board and the Federal Aviation Authority will investigate the incident, according to media reports.
