CBS unveiled its first look at its upcoming new comedy Young Sheldon. A prequel to the hit sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon will follow the early years of character Sheldon Cooper. Iain Armitage will lead the show as young Sheldon, while Jim Parsons, who plays the adult version on The Big Bang Theory, will serve as the show's narrator.

The spinoff will tell the tale of Sheldon at age 9 as he goes about his schooling. Other actors signed on for the project include Lance Barber, Raegan Revord, and Montana Jordan.

The Hollywood Reporter, Entertainment Tonight, and The Huffington Post all broke the news earlier today about the spinoff. Along with the information came the first pictures from the show. Armitage pulls off a striking young resemblance to the Sheldon we know and love.

Across social media, reception to the first images have been mostly positive. While there are some fans worried about the characters portrayal possibly leading to bullying, most others are just excited to get further insight into the future genius' mind. Others are just celebrating more stories from The Big Bang Theory characters.

Young Sheldon will air on CBS on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m., after The Big Bang Theory. A sneak preview is planned for Sept. 25th, after which the show will fall into its typical airing schedule.
