American Idol contestant Jermaine Jones will reportedly be booted from the show tonight after lying to producers about his criminal history.

TMZ reports  the show's producers made the decision to cut Jones after learning yesterday that he has outstanding warrants and was arrested twice last year. One of the incidents involved violence, according to TMZ. The aspiring singer, dubbed the "gentle giant" by show host Ryan Seacrest, also allegedly gave police phony names during both arrests.

Jones confirmed his departure from the show on Twitter, writing, "Awww I will no longer b on the show." But the tweet was deleted, along with his official Idol account.

Idol producers apparently stumbled across Jones' criminal past after looking into claims he made early on in the competition that he had been abandoned by his father a decade ago. Jones' father called TMZ to say that he sees his son on a regular basis. When producers caught Jones in that lie -- followed by another one in which he publicly denied telling them he and his dad are estranged -- they started digging and learned about his criminal past.

There's been no comment yet from Fox on Jones' imminent departure.

American Idol airs tonight at 8 p.m. on Fox.
