The Americans star Noah Emmerich revealed some inside scoop about what his character Stan will be up to in season 2.

Emmerich, who plays FBI agent Stan Beeman, told Entertainment Weekly this week that there will be more of a focus on the relationship between him and his wife when The Americans returns.

"I think there's a lot to explore in the relationship with my wife," he said, "but what's going to happen, I can't say, because I don't know. Obviously, she's an integral part of the show, and she's there for the long haul."

Susan Misner, who plays his wife, Sandra, was promoted to series regular status for season 2. Emmerich noted that when last season ended Stan was left "in quite a tortured spot." He said that season 2 will feature more about Stan's backstory.

"He's been put through the wringer pretty thoroughly, and I hope that continues because that's fun to act," the actor added. "I think there's a lot of material to mine there. We've alluded to a lot of intensity and darkness in his past, and I think it'd be interesting for the audience to learn more about from where he came."

In addition to an increase in Stan's home life, The Americans will also feature Phillip and Elizabeth's daughter, Paige, having more of a role in season 2. Enstars reported on Wednesday that Paige will come closer to discovering her parents' secret in season 2, according to show producer Joe Weisberg.

Based on these bits of information, it seems that season 2 of The Americans will have a much more significant focus on family life and personal relationships between the characters. Weisberg said that Phillip will be moving back in with Elizabeth at the start of the season after spending time apart.

The Americans will begin production on season 2 in September and is set to premiere early 2014 on FX.
