Fresh off her performance on Tuesday night's The Voice finale, Cher revealed details about her new album, set to be released Sept. 24.

On why the 67-year-old singer decided to return to music, a full 12 years after her last studio album, "I did it because I really love the songs," she told reporters backstage. "Because in my time of life, I wouldn't make an album for the hell of it. I'd rather go off and do something else and not sing. But I really love singing, that's the hard part."

Titled Closer to the Truth, the new album comes 12 years after her last album, 2001's Living Proof. Cher has collaborated with some of the industry's hottest artists for her big return.

"When a bunch of great songs come to you-and Pink did two songs for me that I love...someone's gotta sing them," the Believe singer said.

Her much-buzzed duet with Lady Gaga, however, will not be on the new album, but only because Gaga doesn't like it: "I did a song with Gaga and I think it's brilliant and I thought her performance was great but she doesn't like it. So, I'll play it for friends," she said in another interview on Tuesday.

Promotions for the new album began on Tuesday, when the singer debuted the album's first single Woman's World on the Voice finale. Though the appearance was heavily promoted, some were speculating on Twitter that she might not have been singing live.

"I was having a really great time," she said after the show. "Was I at best voice? No. But it was really fun for me, so I just thought, 'screw it, I'm just going to have a good time.'"

Moments after her performance, Cher tweeted, "I did have a blast ! Every1 on The Voice was great ! It's so funny.... I'm gone.... & then... I'm Here ?!"

Access Hollywood reporter Laura Saltman confirmed on Twitter Tuesday night that the performance was pre-taped.
