Katie Couric's hard news sense may be getting the better of her talkshow persona.

The reporter apparently is uncomfortable with the gossip-driven direction her ABC backed Katie is heading in, according to the New York Daily News. In early June there was talk that Couric may leave her new show despite a long-term contract. The Atlantic Wire reported that the former Today show host was eyeing a move to CNN.

While Couric is a co-executive producer of the program, her partner Michael Morrison has been replaced by former Tyra Banks show executive producer Rachel Miskowiec for the second season, reports the New York Daily News.

An inside source told the Daily News that Miskowiec promised a middle ground between hard journalism and more fluff pieces. The source claims that this middle ground probably won't be reached, much to the dismay of Couric.

"If there is one thing Katie hates more than being called 'perky,' it's being called 'tabloid,'" the insider told the New York Daily News. "She thinks of herself as a serious journalist, covering stories that make a difference. She's fighting this."

However, if Katie were to go in the opposite direction and take on only hard-hitting news pieces, the daytime audience would probably tune out and Couric's show would be faced with a ratings plunge.

What will the show ultimatly choose? Will they dabbel in pop culture and host a lineup of celebrity guests, will they take on more serious matters, or will Couric defect to CNN?
